Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had wonderful weekends and got to spend them doing a little bit of what you enjoy - for me it was eating! Dave spoiled me this weekend and we went out to eat a lot; this was a cozy outfit I wore for Sunday brunch. I had eggs benedict and french toast. Of course the nosy people sitting next to us kept looking at my two plates in disbelief that I was eating two brunches; I hate when people are all up in your face when you're eating! Regardless we enjoyed our meal and the sunny walk home. Back to more hard work and studying this week!

Wishing you great starts to your weeks - as always thanks for reading!

Pink Pants and Rain Boots

January 27, 2012

Rainy days call for a pick me up - for many it can be a swipe of red lipstick, booty-shaking music, or fun accessories. This morning it was pink jeans and my Hunter boots (plus booty-shaking music) that allowed me to jump in puddles on my way to class like a 5 year old. It's gonna be a good day. Happy Friday everyone!!!

A layered up outfit I wore to brave the frigid temperatures for date night on Friday. I hope you all had wonderful weekends and got to relax a bit (and maybe watch a little bit of football? Go Pats!).  Ours was spent studying during the day and going out (and eating a lot) at night. I rewarded our studying by booking our trip for April - we're going to Mexico! {I couldn't pass on this deal} Hopefully it will motivate me to study until then. Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a happy and productive start to your week!

Stripes and Layers... and a video!

January 20, 2012

It's Friday! Whoop-whoop! Sadly with all of the studying that needs to get done, weekends don't seem quite as sacred, but I still cherish them so much because I get to see Dave and sprinkle in some fun throughout the weekend. Do you ladies have any fun plans? This was a casual outfit I wore last weekend for a day at the library and a few errands.

Eating Out: Tupelo

January 18, 2012

I'm not one to write restaurant reviews - I feel like I'm not qualified - but I do love taking pictures of food and sharing with you how delicious (or not so delicious) a meal was. Is that a restaurant review? Yeah probably. Today I want to write about a little restaurant in the Inman Square neighborhood of Cambridge that serves "comfort food with a southern drawl." I'm all about comfort food, and Tupelo has this down pat, even down to the mason jars for water.
Dave and I first ordered the cajun gumbo to share, and goodness was it amazing. We must have looked like giggling kids dipping our cornbread into the hot deliciousness that was the gumbo. For our meals Dave got the fried chicken served with jalapeno mac and cheese, smoky bacon gravy, and collard greens. I got the daube of beef brisket with hominy mashed potatoes, herb roasted root vegetables and horseradish cream. Although my beet-stained vegetables were incredibly unattractive and hard to eat, the brisket was perfect - flavorful and tender - Dave's fork couldn't stay on his plate. The meals were decently priced and our bill came out to under $50.
We'll definitely be visiting again - I must try the desserts!

Clothes with Meaning

January 16, 2012

I wore this outfit last week to the hospital and was humbled that I got so many compliments on the look. It's always funny though, when people ask, "Where did you buy this outfit?" The answer is never a short one, because most of my clothes always has a story and each piece was usually bought at different times. The top worn here for example, well I bought it from Marshalls years ago for a friend's funeral in high school. I still remember the day like it was yesterday, so surreal seeing a kid you've known since preschool in an open casket, numbing almost. It was also my first time ever driving on the highway, I'll never forget being between the cement divider and an eighteen-wheeler! The shoes, well those I bought for my medical school interviews from Macy's, and during my Harvard interview the heels got stuck in the gripped rubber finish of  the staircase and I gracefully fell down the stairs. I just threw gracefully in there, but it was anything but - I literally just folded over on the staircase and tried to get up before anyone could see! The bag, oh the bag. I got it from Target years ago, and the shoulder strap is now broken, but I used it all throughout Europe and can still find Euro coins and Czech crowns in the front pocket. The pants are the newest addition from Forever 21, but even these I remember wearing working up my first stroke patient and practicing our neurological exam. Can you tell I'm not one to throw clothes out? Unless it doesn't fit or I truly hate it, my clothes will have a spot in my closet and heart forever.

Meat(cupcakes)

January 15, 2012

I made these for dinner last Sunday, and not only was the recipe super easy and delicious, they are just so darn cute! I was looking for a meatloaf recipe that I didn't have to go to the grocery store for and finally found one, only to realize I didn't have the traditional meatloaf baking dish (small kitchen fail). But, never being one to sulk and give up, I decided I'd make cupcakes! Meatcupcakes. Dave bowed down to me when he came home and had his first bite.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped white onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a cupcake tray. Mix the eggs, milk, bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper, and sage in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the beef.Scoop the mix into the cupcake tray and bake for 40-45 minutes. While the meatloaf is in the oven mix the ketchup and brown sugar in a small bowl. After 40-45 minutes, remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the the topping on each one. Place back in the oven for ~10 minutes or until it is set.Serve with rice or mashed potatoes and vegetables (meatloaf goes with anything)! The best part - the leftovers are so easy to freeze and reheat later! Hope you enjoyed the recipe!

Boston Wedding Gala

January 13, 2012

I wanted to start this post by giving a huge thanks and really big virtual hug to
for all of your awesome comments on my last post wishing me luck with this crazy exam, they truly meant a lot! Many of you also commented that you would like to see photos from the wedding gala at the Boston Public Library, so here are a just a few!

I must admit it was a little weird going to the library after hours, especially because I spend so much time there studying (see the second to last pic for my usual study room). I almost felt like I was in Night at the Museum, except of course I'm not a security guard. Wedding cake (and cupcake) samples, models walking around in wedding gowns and dresses displayed amongst the rows of books, it was incredible to even think that people really get married here! At the gala you could find anything from wedding invitations, photographers, DJ's, lighting specialists and more!
Wishing you all the happiest of Fridays and a great weekend!
As always thank you so much for reading!

Casual Friday Out Look

January 11, 2012

Hi ladies! As some of you have already noticed, I've cut down my posting frequency to ~3 times a week because of... BOARDS! That's right, I can't always act like I'm not a medical student, and for these next three months I'm really going to have to suck it up and use my time efficiently. I'm studying for Step 1 of the boards, and a good score is essential to scoring the residency I want (a passing score of course is essential to be a doctor). I of course motivated myself (read - screwed myself) by scheduling my exam the Monday right after school finishes (April 2nd) so I can have a month long break before starting clinicals. Supposedly Harvard gives us that month to study for the boards... but who wants to study full time for an entire month? Not me, I'll be on vacation somewhere drinking a pina colada. So bear with me these next three months, and trust that I still read each and every one of your comments even if I don't always have the time to right back.

Warm and Furry

Just a little something to warm your hearts this Sunday morning. Nothing like an adorable dog to put a smile on your face (a baby doesn't hurt either)! I hope your weekends have been lovely so far.

Happy Friday everyone! Happy Three Kings Day and Armenian Christmas as well! If I was home (and 10 years old) I'd be running to my mom's room right now to check under her bed and see what the three kings left me. But alas, I'm a big girl now, and what a crazy week it has been (and unfortunately the weeks will continue to be). I hope your first weeks of 2012 were productive and most importantly filled with happiness!

Bedroom Inspiration: Chandeliers

January 5, 2012

 {Top to bottom: 1, 2, 3, 4}

When life gets a little stressful my favorite place to lay is on my bed. Of course my favorite place to lay would be on a tiny boat in the middle of a lake, but I'm trying to be reasonable here. Something about white bed linens has always been relaxing to me - one thing I've always dreamed of pairing with my white bed? A chandelier. How do you ladies feel about chandeliers in the bedroom?

New Year's Eve

January 2, 2012

Happy 2012 everyone! I can't believe we're already in a new year, but here we are! The last few days of 2011 were phenomenal. Dave's birthday actually falls on New Year's Eve (he and his twin sister were even in the news for being the last babies born in the year!), so I had a surprise birthday dinner for him with all of his friends. We drank, we ate (in that order too), laughed and danced (I picked a spot that not only has dining on one side, but music and dancing on the other), and had an amazing time celebrating my hunny. New Year's Eve of course I couldn't decide what to wear; naturally I bought the gold sequin dress, but when I put it on that night I just wasn't feeling it, so I changed into an old black and gold studded dress from the closet (worn here). We rang in the new year with good friends and even got our first kiss on camera! Here's to 2012, may it bring you continued health and happiness.
